Access Statement for Breaks Guesthouse

Introduction

We aim to cater for the needs of all visitors in our home based 4 bedroom Guesthouse, however, due to the fact that all our bedrooms are on the first or second floor access for those with limited mobility may be difficult. The following statement is a summary of our provision. If you have any specific questions please feel free to call us and we will endeavour to help.

Pre-Arrival

• The main bus station is a 2 minute down-hill walk from our home and there is a frequent bus service
• The train station is a 15 - 20 minute walk away
• There are numerous local taxi services and we will be happy to book a taxi for you.
• We are a five minute walk from the town centre and a 10 minute walk from the beach.
• Menus can be provided in large print if required. We regret we do not have facilities to prepare documents in braille.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

• Please advise us of your anticipated arrival time so that we can be sure to be here to greet you
• To ensure your accommodation is ready we ask that guests do not normally arrive before 2pm. Earlier arrival may, however, be possible by arrangement.
• Parking is on street or on a side street when parking restrictions are in force (1st May to 30th September). We have very limited off-road parking. Please pre-book.
• Assistance with luggage is always offered to guests

Main Entrance, Reception & Ticketing Area

• There is a shallow step up into the front courtyard. The front door has one step 10cm high.
• The front door is always locked. If no answer on arrival, please phone 01637 874641 or 07976 404484.
• Entrance is into a tiled hallway

Public Areas - Hall, Stairs, Landing, Corridors etc

• The hallway leads onto the dining room and guest lounge both rooms have wooden floors
• There are 16 stairs to the first floor. The stairs are 16cm high, 19 cm deep and 73cm wide.

Public Areas - Sitting room, lounges, lobbies etc

• Breakfast is served in the dining room on the ground floor.
• Vegan, vegetarian, gluten free and all other diets are catered for.
• Guests are welcome to use the lounge at any time.
• Local information, maps, magazines, books, DVDs and board games are available in the lounge.

Public WCs

• All bedrooms are en suite but no public WC available

Bedrooms & Sleeping Areas

• Two standard rooms and one superior room are located on the first floor.
• The fourth bedroom (Chicama) is located on the first floor accessed via a steep narrow staircase with low ceilings and exposed beams. Not suitable for those with limited mobility or families with very young children.
• All bedrooms are carpeted and bathrooms are all tiled and comprise shower, WC and washbasin
• Two of the rooms have wet room bathrooms.
• Only our superior rooms are big enough to accommodate extra seating.
• Lights and lamps are fitted with low energy light bulbs.
• Televisions all have remote controls with set top freeview and DVD players.
• There is an information folder in each room.
• Our small standard double only has access to one side of the bed.

Additional Information

• There are smoke alarms in every room and a fire extinguisher on each floor.
• In the event of a fire the front doorbell will ring continuously.
• We are able to use the front and back doors in the need of evacuation.
• We do not permit smoking in any part of the building but you may smoke in the front courtyard.
• Mobile reception is generally good.
• There is a small fridge for guests' use in the dining room.

Future Plans

• We plan to upgrade our fire alarm system as soon as possible
